Computational Photo-Scatterography: Kick-off Meeting

8:00 am – 9:00 am: Breakfast at BRC 1003 (for information on parking, security check-in etc, see below).
9:15 am – 9:30 am: Dr. Jie Yang, NSF Program Director.
9:30 am – 9:50 am: Prof. Srinivas Narasimhan, CMU, “Overall research descriptions for the (2,4,10) mm thrusts”.
9:50 am – 10:10 am: Prof. Carolyn Nichols on “Pathways to Broadening Participation,” Rice Office of STEM Engagement.
10:30 am – 11:45 am: Project discussions for each thrust, led by thrust leaders (Scribes: 2 students per group).
11:45 am – 12:15 pm:
(A) Working lunch for PIs – Industry consortium discussion led by Dr. Paul Cherukuri, Rice.
(B) Working lunch for (i) student scribes to convert notes into project descriptions (ii) rest of the students, network and share their work via their posters.
12:15 pm – 1:15 pm: Speed poster session: “Everyone sees everything” (Poster boards can accommodate up to 48 x 48 inches, more details below).
1:15 pm – 3:00 pm: Thrusts meet again:
(A) PIs, with support from students, start writing project descriptions using the template on Google drive: all aspects are covered – technical, broadening participation, collaboration, paper deadlines.
(B) Thrust leaders prepare short slide-decks to report back to the whole group.
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Thrusts report back with project descriptions (follow the presentation template).
4:00 pm – 4:15 pm: Report by Paul Cherukuri on Industry Consortium Development.
4:15 pm – 4:30 pm: Closing remarks by Ashu (including next set of meetings).
Parking – Parking is available in a dedicated parking garage under the BioScience Research Collaborative. Entrance/Exit are on Dryden Street. We will have parking passes available. Please use your credit card to enter the garage, and when exiting first insert the parking pass then your credit card.
Poster Boards – Poster boards can accommodate a 48 x 48 inch poster and will be set up in BRC 106, across from the Elevator Lobby. Push pins will be provided.
Elevators – Security will have a list of all attendees. To enter the Elevator lobby, please check in with Security. In the morning we will have a student stationed by the Elevators to open the doors. The meeting is on the 10th floor.
